Married Katherine … has two children: Elle and Leo...Pitched three seasons at Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pa., going 19-6 with a 2.61 ERA (59 ER/172.2 IP) and 233 strikeouts (12.1 per 9 IP) in 41 career games (24 starts)…was named the Division II Outstanding Pitcher as a junior...Graduated in 2011 from Elizabeth (Pa.) Forward High School, where he went 11-1 with a 0.57 ERA as a senior.

2024

Spent most of the season with Class AAA Omaha in the Kansas City Royals organization...His contract was selected by Kansas City on 6/10…made his Royals debut on 6/10 vs. the Yankees, pitching a 1-2-3 eighth inning with two strikeouts (Alex Verdugo and DJ LeMahieu) in his first Major League appearance since 4/16/21...Made four more appearances before being placed on the 15-day injured list on 6/20 with a strained right oblique…was transferred to the 60-day injured list on 7/5...Was reinstated from the IL and designated for assignment on 9/5…was outrighted to Omaha on 9/7.

2023

Altavilla made eight appearances between the FCL Red Sox and High-A Greenville, striking out seven batters across 12.0 innings in July and August. 

2022

Signed with the Red Sox as a Minor League free agent on 3/22/22 and spent the entire season on the Minor League injured list recovering from Tommy John surgery (performed in June 2021).

2021

Made two appearances with San Diego before suffering a season-ending injury to his right elbow...Began the season on the 10-day injured list with a strained right calf … was reinstated on 4/14 and placed on the injured list a second time on 4/17 with right elbow inflammation...Was transferred to the 60-day injured list on 5/28 and underwent Tommy John surgery in June.

2020

Acquired by SD in a 7-player trade with SEA on Aug. 30 in 1 of the club's 6 trade deadline deals...posted a 7.71 ERA his 13 app with SEA and a 3.12 ERA in 9 app. with SD... Was scoreless in 15 of his 22 total outings, allowing just 9 hits (.176 AVG), 4 walks and 16 SO in those outings...posted a 20.65 ERA (13 ER, 5.2 IP) and a .346 opponent AVG in the other 7 appearances... Retired the 1st batter in 15 of his 22 outings (.238 AVG)...Recorded his 1st hold in his 2nd outing as a Padre on Sept. 9 vs. COL...finished the regular season with his 2nd hold in Game 2 of the doubleheader on Sept. 26 at SF and his 1st win for SD the next day in the season finale on Sept. 27... Relied on 3 pitches: slider (49.9%), four seamer (47.4%) and changeup (2.8%).

POSTSEASON: Added to the Padres roster for the NLDS vs. LAD...made his 1st career postseason appearance on Oct. 7 in Game 2, tossing a hitless 8th inning to preserve the 6-5 deficit...allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 1 BB the next day in SD's Game 3 12-3 defeat.

2019

Went 2-1 with a 5.52 ERA (9 ER, 14.2 IP) with 12 walks and 18 strikeouts in 17 appearances with the Mariners...Did not allow a run over his last 5 games (5.0 IP) of the season, allowing only 1 hit with no walks and 5 strikeouts during that span...Was placed on the 10-day Injured List with a right forearm strain on July 6…began a rehab assignment with Short-A Everett on August 11, where he made 1 appearance… transferred to Triple-A Tacoma on August 15, where he made 6 appearances…reinstated on September 1 after missing 45 games...Named to the Mariners Opening Day roster but optioned to AAA Tacoma on March 23 when Seattle's Major League roster was cut to 25 players...appeared in 29 games in the Mariners minor league system, posting a 4.31 ERA (15 ER, 31.1 IP) with 14 walks and 52 strikeouts, while splitting time between AAA Tacoma (14 G), AA Arkansas (14 G) and Short-A Everett (1 G)...

2018

Went 3-2 with 5 holds and a 2.61 ERA (6 ER, 20.2 IP) with 23 strikeouts and 15 walks in 22 outings over 3 stints with Seattle...Made two trips to the DL: May 1-12 (right AC join inflammation), including one game on rehab with Double-A Arkansas…June 8 (retro to 6/7)-Aug. 29 (right elbow UCL sprain); transferred to 60-day DL on July 31…on Aug. 29, recalled from rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma, reinstated from the DL, optioned to Tacoma...In his first 7 games (3/29 - 4/14), was 1-1, 1.29 (1 ER, 7.0 IP)…from April 17-29, was 1-1, 8.44 ERA (5 ER, 5.1 IP) in six outings…over his last 9 games (5/12 - 6/6), was 1-0 and allowed one run (no earned runs) on three hits, six walks and one HBP while striking out seven...Optioned to Triple-A Tacoma, May 23-27…during this span, tossed 1.0 scoreless frame May 24 vs. El Paso…entered the game but did not throw a pitch May 26 at Las Vegas…recalled by Seattle the following day.
